Synopsis
This project follows a free-roaming herd of plains bison (bison bison) released on Sitkalidak Island, Alaska in 2017 and the nearby community of Old Harbor that owns, manages, and harvests them. This is part of a larger narrative of Indigenous-led efforts across North America to populate bison on Tribal lands for food security. Co-developed and co-produced between the community and Tribe of Old Harbor, Alaska and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Arctic Beringia program. In association with the InterTribal Buffalo Council.
